The simple building block for collaboration and creation.
These Efforts, are like cells in our bodies, the living building blocks working together to create movement – life …
Your process is your organisational diagram.
We are moving from organisation to organism.
Normal day to day collaboration, disruptive development, co-creation, outsourcing, insourcing. These elements of driving any business – whether it be the latest high tech cloud based front runner, or a venerable 200 year old business, requires a better way to describe processes, open up the organisation, and secure a place in an ever more complex and global value chain.

Outcomes – Culture – Effort – Input – Foundation
In short referred to as an Effort :
E – Effort
The structure enabling people to better collaborate, innovate, optimise and create valuable outcomes.
A great way to divide the work needed to create a given Outcome, is organising it into Logical Units. A piece of work – an Effort, that can be completed by a single person of team and be handed off to the next step in the process.
Automation, AI, robotised & mechanised production, and any other form of non-human activity or decision making, that is part of creating the Outcomes, can and should be described in the same manner. And these activities must adhere to and be governed by the same Culture as human activity.
O – Outcomes
What are the Outcomes we seek to create – and why ?
Outcomes vs Value; there will always be an outcome – but it may not be valuable in the intended sense. But there will always be a product and learning or decision or information… hence outcomes.
C – Culture
What are the traditions, values, rules, laws, customs, ethics, morals, etc. Local & international, that we must adhere to and that guides the way we collaborate, create and deliver Outcomes. Details here =>
R – Responsible
The Person or Team responsible for carrying out the entrusted task.
P – Person
T – Team
Details here =>
F – Foundation
The experience, knowledge, resources and leadership that guides the Efforts.
Additional actors
In – Inform / Informed / Information
Keeping everybody up to date with timely and relevant information is essential. it is implied in all roles that we seek and provide information to the everybody involved.
S – Support
Provides support during the implementation and execution of the activity / process / service
This can be someone who have handed over an Input to the process – but still supports the next steps as needed.
It can be support from any actor on Culture, a customer engaging to ensure the right Outcomes or a coach/mentor as part of the Foundation they provide.
Co – Consultant
Similar to those Supporting the efforts. Provides valuable advice or consultation for the task. This includes Finance, Legal, Talent and Resources
A – Accountable or approver.
When required by governance, budget limits, avoiding corruption and fraud, customer verification, etc.
Those Accountable will normally be part of the Foundation.
Approvers will also be part of the Foundation, but can likewise be within the Team, from a certification or government body – the Culture component, a customer approving the Outcome or product and even a Vendor approving how their component is used in the final product.
Principles:
The Logical Unit is determined by the Effort(s), steps/process, included in creating the Outcome.
R – Responsible.
One R only (Firm rule), this can be a Department, Division or Team, as long as the responsibility and actual work of carrying out that individual value adding step, is solely within that Logical Unit
R and A can be the same person in a simple structure. In Accounting, Legal and similar areas of business however – there should always be a two-factor approval and accountability structure in place. As determined or dictated by laws and ethics – the prevailing Culture.
R imply a responsibility to the paying customer – to fully understand the Outcome they need, how and when. Ensure they have the Mandate, understand the relevant Culture – including legal, regulatory, etc. impacting the process. Consult with and seek help when needed from M and S, and Inform everybody as needed/required.
In – Inform
Is an equal obligation on the information holder and those who need, require and can benefit from the information.
To clarify what is needed, when, why and in what format. ( Be a good customer )
To readily share relevant, timely and valuable information when available and required.
A – Accountable ( Person )
Recommend only one Accountable Person.
Implies a clear Mandate – you shouldn’t be made Accountable for something you don’t have the Mandate for, neither should you be allowed to be Accountable without having the Mandate.
Implies Approver – naturally being accountable implies that the person has approval right and responsibility.
A implies C, S and always In.
S – Support ( Person or Team )
Implies a responsibility to support and help others when possible – and on their terms.
S imply In ( Be a good customer )
